Caracterización del síndrome metabólico en pacientes adultos con obesidad

RESUMEN
Se realizó una caracterización clínica, validada por resultados de laboratorio, de 41
pacientes con síndrome metabólico (69,5 %), seleccionados de una muestra de 59
adultos con sobrepeso y obesidad mediante un muestreo por conglomerados y
estratificado por género, detectados según los criterios del Programa Nacional de
Educación sobre el Colesterol y atendidos en la Policlínica “Mario Gutiérrez” de Holguín
desde noviembre de 2008 hasta junio de 2009. Los valores estadísticos se obtuvieron
a través de las pruebas t de Student y Ji al cuadrado. Los hombres con síndrome
metabólico tuvieron niveles más altos de tensión arterial sistólica, colesterol total y
triglicéridos que los varones sin la enfermedad; las mujeres con ese estado
presentaron, además, mayor peso, índice de masa corporal y circunferencia
abdominal. Se comprobó una asociación entre la proteína C reactiva, la
microalbuminuria y la alteración de la glucemia con el mencionado síndrome, de donde
se derivó que era muy importante confirmar su presencia por el elevado riesgo que
implicaba para la aparición de cardiopatía y diabetes sacarina.
