Estrés oxidativo: genética, dieta y desarrollo de enfermedades

RESUMEN
Los radicales libres y el estrés oxidativo están involucrados en la etiopatogenia de diversas
enfermedades. Ninguno de los llamados biomarcadores del estrés oxidativo consigue de forma
aislada una valoración precisa y definitiva del mismo. La recomendación de un estilo de vida sano
con ejercicio regular y una dieta basada en productos ricos en antioxidantes parece eficaz para
prolongar la supervivencia y reducir ciertas enfermedades. Respecto a los tratamientos
antioxidantes existen en la literatura resultados contradictorios, son necesarios más estudios para
definir las enfermedades, el momento y el tipo de la intervención, el perfil del paciente, los
antioxidantes y sus dosis adecuadas para que estos tratamientos sean exitosos. En esta revisión se trató la relación del estrés oxidativo con el envejecimiento, la enfermedad cardiovascular y
neurodegenerativa, además de la terapia antioxidante y la dieta.
