In a research project it is fundamental to determine what is going to be measured and the procedures for doing it. Measuring deals with typifying, labelling and classifying different forms, in which a certain property of interest is presented in a phenomenon. There are different ways of measuring the properties of aleatory phenomena. These ways called measuring scales and include the nominal, ordinal, interval, relation and absolute measuring scales. How to choose a measuring scale is not necessarily a decision of the researcher. It can be determined by the inherent conditions of the characteristics that have been studied. There are many ways of classifying the variables; among them, two stand out and are described in the article: the first one divides the variables in quantitative and qualitative ones; the second one in discrete and continuous ones.REFERENCES
