ABSTRACT

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) essential for mandibular function is also susceptible to arthropathies such as: ankylosis, arthritis, trauma and neoplasms. The synovial chondromatosis (SC) represents a benign pathology that commonly affects large joints such as: knees, elbow, wrist and shoulder. Principal signs and symptoms of the synovial chondromatosis are pain, swelling, occlusal disturbances and crepitation. The purpose of this article is to describe the use of the arthroscopic like an alternative for diagnosis and treatment of synovial chondromatosis.
