ABSTRACT

Objective: The present paper pretends to make a review of the literature about Bell’s Palsy and to mention the advances in diagnosis that have recently appeared in order to recognize the causes of the pathology and to propose an algorithm for its treatment. Material and methods: In this review of the literature we searched for studies in different countries and meta-analysis in order to homogenize and guide the physician for the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of Bell’s Palsy. Results: The most recommended treatment for Bell’s Palsy is the use of antivirals and steroids according to the severity of the paralysis, even though clinicians’ experience and their ability to make an adequate diagnosis is fundamental, to determine exactly what kinds of sequelae is very important information for the patients.
