ABSTRACT

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) is a hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IV, autosomal recessive rare disorder mainly characterized by insensitivity to pain, lack of sweating and mental retardation. The disorder has been associated with mutation in the NTRK1 gene located on chromosome 1. Described by Dearborn in 1932 as a disorder of pain perception congenital cases have been reported in the literature with osteomyelitis preceded by mutilation of the extremities with no pain. We report the case of female 4 years old with CIPA mandibular osteomyelitis associated with absence of pain treated in our department with bone curettage and evolution of three months after the intervention.

Key words: Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis, NTRK1 gene, mandibular osteomyelitis.
