ABSTRACT
Background: The neodimious YAG is the ideal treatment for capsulotomy in patients operated on cataract, these patients do not require admission or preoperative preparation, it is indolent, easy, and safe. It allows the recovery of part the near vision and improves the visual functions such as sensitivity to contrast, glares, and macular sensitivity. Objective: To describe the results of the treatment by YAG laser in patients with opaqueness of the posterior capsule operated on Camilo Cienfuegos University Hospital, Sancti Spíritus from January 2011 to March 2012. Methodology: A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out. The population involved was 128 patients (eyes) coinciding with the simple, with opaqueness of posterior capsule which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Age, sex, acuity pre and post treatment were studied as well as most frequent complications. Results: The great number of patients operated on were over 60 years, males were predominant, the preoperative acuity vision was 0.4 - 0.5 and postoperative was 0.8-1.0, the impact in the intraocular lens was the most frequent complication. Conclusion: el neodimious YAG laser is the elective treatment for opaqueness of the posterior capsule which obeys to bondages of this procedure.REFERENCES
