ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Camagüey neurosurgery history remounts to XVIII century when generals surgeons and orthopedics makes operations over the skull generally caused by brain injuries. The objective of this paper is shows the first publication about a neurosurgery activity develops in Camagüey.
Methods: This is an historic investigation based on documents research that use the chronologic sub method for establishes the echo’s order.
Development: The article “A case of extradural hematoma” was presented; it was published in the Camaguey Medical College Bulletin of 1939. The surgery was practiced by the general surgeon Dr. Camilo Doval Casas in the Camagüey General Hospital that was the principal medical surgical center in the territory in that epoch. The Camagüey Medical College Bulletin was a prestigious scientific magazine which charge to disclose the results of Camagüey medicine and appeared papers to shows how surgeons and orthopedics makes neurosurgical surgeries and dedicates to the attention of neurological diseases.
Conclusions: The first publication about neurosurgery in Camagüey was described, and also the characteristics of the medical institution and the importance of the Camagüey Medical College Bulletin, the scientific magazine that spread the presented case that constitute a contribution to knowledge of Camagüey neurosurgery history.
