ABSTRACT
One of the emergency therapeutic measures in a patient with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is oxygen therapy. Oxygen is frequently used in these patients however it should be administered only when hypoxemia exists to maintain the hemoglobin oxygen saturation above 95%. A qualitative investigation organized in two stages at the "Mártires del 9 de Abril" Teaching Hospital in Sagua la Grande was carried out between July first and August 31 of 2015 with the objective to know the use of oxygen in patient with acute coronary syndrome as well as the opinion about this therapeutic measure of a group of specialists who offers assistance to these patients. It was demonstrated that professionals of the "Mártires del 9 de Abril" Hospital administer oxygen by mask or nasal glasses with flow oscillating between 3 to 6 liters per minute and did not document the prescription of oxygen therapy on clinic document in the most of cases. The answer to question about the use of oxygen in patient with ACS reflected diverse opinions between the specialist doctors, being specialists in Intensive and Emergencies Medicine who guided the application according to value of SaO2 in the most of cases. It was appreciated differences between observed in the emergency room and the answers obtained of the medical interviewees who worked at the "Mártires del 9 de Abril" Hospital therefore the answers to the main question of the investigation were not totally reliable.
